do it yourself christmas paper activity

There’s no better way to get into the swing of Christmas than with a spot of seasonal themed crafting.
These sweet activity ideas are guaranteed  to engage and entertain your little creatives over the holidays and will help get everyone in the mood in the run up to the big day and beyond.
This is a wonderful little activity that the whole family can enjoy. Reusing paper that you already have makes it a great eco-friendly option, plus there’s something really special about giving a gift wrapped in your very own printed design, for that added personal touch.
You will Need
  • A roll of recycled brown paper (or save and re-use any existing gift wrap by printing on the reverse side)
  • Poster paints in various colours of your choice
  • Paintbrush
  • Crafting supplies (depending on which design you go for – see ideas below) – googly eyes, mini pom poms, glitter, cookie cutters in various shapes.
  • Scissors
  • Clear glue
Ready, Steady Craft
  1. Take your desired length of paper and lay it flat on a table (be sure to protect your surfaces with a crafting mat or similar).
  2. Pour a generous glug of brown paint into a shallow bowl or onto a plate.
  3. Take your thumb and press it into the paint.
  4. Dab your thumb, pressing firmly onto the paper so that it leaves a mark.
  5. Repeat this process, making random thumb prints all over the paper.
  6. Leave to dry.
  7. Once dry, add some painted black eyes or stick on some googly eyes and add a red nose, using either red paint or a mini red pompom and finally draw on some antlers – voila, your Rudolph inspired wrap is ready to roll.
  1. Take your desired length of paper and lay it flat on a table (be sure to protect your surfaces with a crafting mat or similar).
  2. Take a potato and cut it in half.
  3. Next up, select a cookie cutter (we like star print, Christmas trees or circles) and push it into your potato.
  4. Grown-ups only – take a sharp knife and cut around the outer part of the potato so you are left with your desired shape. Remove the cookie cutter.
  5. Pop your chosen paint colour/s onto a flat plate or shallow bowl and press your potato stamp into the paint so that the surface is covered.
  6. Press your stamp onto the paper in random spaced out patterns and repeat until you have covered your paper.
  7. Leave to dry then wrap your gift!
  1. Take your little adventurers on a lovely outdoor walk to hunt for some decorative items inspired by nature. Leaves, small twigs, pinecones, acorns and evergreen sprigs are in abundance at this time of year.
  2. Take your desired length of brow paper and wrap your gift.
  3. Next, take some string and wrap it around your gift, securing at the top with a bow.
  4. Select your chosen decorative accessories and either slot them under the string, or glue them on, for a simple and effective festive look.
You can also create your own co-ordinating gift tags by applying your chosen design to some plain card. Simply cut out a rectangular piece of sturdy card or paper, taken from used packaging and make a hole in the top corner. Then, thread through a piece of string or ribbon and secure with a knot.
