From first doodles to mini masterpieces, get ready to inspire a new generation of artists with our sweet, easy to follow drawing activity, inspired by nature.

Drawing from an early age has many benefits that help to support vital child development.  Read on to discover the many advantages of encouraging your little learners to pick up a pencil and have some fun.

A world of Imagination

Drawing is a natural process for children to explore as they grow and develop. From a very young age they may start to experiment by picking up drawing tools and making scribbles on pieces of paper. Encourage your mini Monet’s and Petite Picassos by giving them access to materials and letting them express themselves freely.

As they get older, these random scribbles and marks start to take on meaning as they begin to demonstrate an understanding of the world around them.

Drawing is an excellent means of practicing and refining fine motor skills. As little ones learn to hold a pencil, crayon or paint brush, they are also learning to control their grip and movement in their hands and fingers too. Amazing isn’t it!

Another benefit of drawing is that it aids the development of hand-eye coordination techniques as well as helping to build your kiddies concentration skills and overall attention to detail.

And of course, drawing forms the very foundation of pre-writing skills. So, getting them used to holding a pencil is good practice for when they reach their school foundation years and beyond.

Drawing is also a powerful tool for allowing a child to express their emotions and to show others how they are feeling.

It’s important to note that there is no set age for when your child can and should be expected to draw independently. As with most things, they will reach milestones at their own pace. Positive reinforcement and engaging in activities together will set the foundations to enjoying a lifetime of drawing.
